Description

Designed by Herbert von Thaden for Thaden-Jordan Furniture in the 1940s, this avant-garde bent plywood buffet straddles the lines between Art Deco and Modernism. The streamlined appearance and sleek, clean lines embody von Thaden’s preoccupations as a pilot, aeronautic engineer and inventor. Constructed out of laminated birch, the buffet server features a hutch with two graduated tiers. The top tier has grooves for displaying plates. The bottom sideboard features two cupboards and a center tri-level felt-lined silverware drawer, all with the original wooden straight-lined handles. The buffet is supported by tapered bent plywood legs that are an early precursor to later mid-century designs. This piece has a rich patina and history and is in excellent vintage condition.
